Mobile 1.1.0

Mobile app 1.1.0: a redesigned app, fees end to end, and CBT transcripts

Every screen rebuilt on one native design system, a full finance workspace on the phone, one-question-at-a-time tests with printable transcripts, and fee discounts.

Version 1.1.0 is out on Google Play. It is the largest update the app has had: every screen has been through a design pass, and the finance and testing features that previously meant opening a laptop now work properly on a phone.

The iPhone and iPad app is coming soon.

A redesigned app

The app now has one visual system rather than a Material default with school colours dropped on top.

  • Every screen shares a header. Your school's logo and name sit above the screen title, in the same place, on every screen. Screens with tabs keep them; nothing lost its navigation.
  • Cards were rebuilt. Summary panels are flat, with a hairline border and a soft backdrop behind them, so a figure reads as a figure rather than as a floating box.
  • Status has colour meaning again. Paid, part paid, overdue, absent and late use the same three semantic colours everywhere, instead of whichever green or red a screen happened to pick.
  • Tablets lay out as tablets. Stat grids go from two columns to four above 600dp, with wider margins to match.
  • Large system text no longer breaks layouts. Text scaling is capped, which fixes the case where the largest accessibility setting wrapped a card's label one character per line.

Fees, on the phone

The whole finance side of the workspace is now usable natively.

  • A Payments workspace. A paginated verification queue with All, Pending, Verified and Rejected filters and a search box, the same as the web. Verify a payment, reject it with a reason, void a receipt recorded in error, or resend a receipt to a parent, all from the same sheet, and all gated on the permissions your school granted you.
  • Invoice search and sort. Find an invoice by pupil, admission number or invoice number, and sort by newest, due date, amount, balance or pupil name. Newest first is the default.
  • Fee structures. Full create, edit and delete for your fee types, with a category and an optional default amount, so the phone is no longer read-only for the building blocks of an invoice.
  • Bulk reminders. Long-press an invoice to start selecting, tap to add more, and send every selected parent their own reminder in one action. Cancelled invoices can never be selected.
  • Analytics and outstanding. A collection-rate ring, a twelve-month invoiced-against-collected trend, and breakdowns by payment method, fee type and term, plus a debtors and overdue screen. Each is per currency, and a currency with no data reads as empty rather than quietly showing another one's figures.

Fee discounts

Sibling discounts, staff-child waivers and any reduction your school defines can now be managed from the app: the catalogue itself, and the awards against individual pupils. Discount lines show on the invoice exactly as they do on the web and on the PDF, so a parent looking at their phone sees the same figure the office does.

Tests and transcripts

  • One question at a time. Candidates now see a single question with a numbered strip above it, rather than one long scroll where the next question's options sit directly under the current one's. Answered questions are filled in, the current one is ringed, and Submit is available from any question with a confirmation if anything is unanswered.
  • The timer is the server's. The countdown is driven by the deadline the server issued, so closing the app and reopening it does not buy more time, and a reinstall does not restart the clock.
  • Transcripts. A completed paper opens as a branded PDF, question by question, with the marks awarded, every option, and what the candidate chose. Staff open it from a submission, students from their result, and parents from a new Tests tab on their child.
  • A test can cover several classes. Pick every stream of a year group when you create it, rather than one class per paper.

Everywhere else

  • Early years. A comment recorded against a developmental area shows its own rating where the teacher gave one.
  • A lapsed subscription no longer looks like a broken app. Instead of empty screens and a Try again button that could never work, the app says the subscription has expired, explains that renewal happens in the web portal, and restores itself the moment payment goes through. No sign-out and no reinstall.
  • Renew before you expire. Renewing early is now reachable from the app, and adds the new period to the end of your current one rather than restarting it.
  • Figures refresh themselves. Recording a payment, verifying or voiding one now updates every affected total on the spot, rather than leaving a dashboard on its pre-write number until you reopened the screen.
  • Teachers see the right menu. Menu entries now follow your school's own roles rather than a fixed admin-or-teacher split.

Security and platform

  • Anything held on the device for offline use is now encrypted at rest, including the queued attendance registers.
  • Certificate pinning is configurable and fails open, so a pinning misconfiguration can never lock a school out of its own data.
  • Android 15 edge-to-edge display is now declared rather than inherited, and images are decoded at the size they are actually displayed, which cuts memory use on long lists.
