Backups & Disaster Recovery
How your school's data is protected against loss, and what recovery looks like if the worst happens.
Automated backups
Your school's database is backed up automatically on a regular schedule, without any action required from you. Backups are stored separately from the primary database so a problem affecting the live system does not also affect the copies of your data.
Backup frequency
Backups run daily, with a rolling retention window rather than an indefinite archive. We deliberately don't publish exact retention periods or infrastructure specifics here, as that detail changes as we scale, and stating it precisely would be more useful to an attacker than to a school evaluating us. The operative fact is that recent backups always exist.
Recovery process
In the event of data loss or corruption, our team restores from the most recent viable backup. Recovery time depends on the nature and scale of the incident, so we do not publish a fixed recovery-time figure as a guarantee. What we do commit to is starting restoration immediately and keeping affected schools informed throughout.
Disaster recovery
Beyond routine backups, our infrastructure is provisioned in a way that lets us stand up a replacement environment from configuration rather than by hand, reducing how much depends on any single server being available. We keep investing in this as the platform grows. No infrastructure setup removes risk entirely, and we would rather describe our approach honestly than offer a guarantee we cannot stand behind.
Business continuity
Because backups and the export tools described on our Data Protection page are independent of any single incident, a school's historical records remain recoverable even in a serious failure scenario.
